In the second week of Arizona Fall League play, Dodgers outfield prospect Scott Schebler broke out of a 3-for-19 slump to hit a home run on Friday night. But he sounded more concerned with working on his outfield defense in Glendale.
"I've been working on my arm the last year and a half, so hopefully, I can keep going with that," Schebler told Josh Jackson of MLB.com. "And defensive breaks. I've been working pretty hard on those. I went to instructs early to work on defense and hopefully, I'll get some payoffs from that."
Corey Seager played five games this week, including three games at shortstop. He has yet to play third base in the Arizona Fall League. Seager was just 3-for-22 during the week with a walk and a pair of doubles, but one of his hits was this booming shot off the center field wall on Wednesday at Salt River Fields, with video evidence:
Darnell Sweeney was 5-for-13 (.385) with two walks in his three games, one game each at second base, shortstop and center field.
Matt Magill continued his solid mound work, pitching three scoreless, hitless innings on Tuesday, walking two. He has thrown 53 of his 77 pitches (68.8 percent) for strikes in the AFL, and has yet to allow an earned run.
Daniel Coulombe pitched in two games this week, allowed no runs while allowing one hit and one walk, and he struck out two of his seven batters faced.
Blake Smith allowed two runs and walked three in three innings of work this week in his two relief appearances, but also struck out five.
Michael Thomas pitched three scoreless innings in his two appearances. The left-hander struck out two and allowed one hit.
