The 36-year-old utility man will play all over the field for the Dodgers this spring as he attempts to win a spot on the bench.

GLENDALE -- Chone Figgins makes his fourth start in six Cactus League games for the Dodgers on Monday as they head to Phoenix to battle the Athletics, and at his fourth different position.

Figgins starts at third base on Monday after making starts at shortstop, left field and center field. He will probably see time at second base too, as the Dodgers are trying to get a look at his versatility.

"As a utility guy, he'll get some looks at second base. Also, we know he can play third, we've tried him at shortstop, and we know he can play the outfield," manager Don Mattingly said on Sunday. "But he'll get some specific looks at different areas to see what we think, but for the most part we're trying to get him at-bats regularly to get his timing, because he didn't play last year."

Figgins was in spring training with the Marlins in 2013 but he didn't make the team, and he sat out the season. This followed two years of hitting .185/.249/.253 in Seattle. Now, at 36, Figgins is a non-roster invitee trying to make the Dodgers as a utility man.

"I just want to see him play. I've always liked him. It gives us a guy who can play everywhere and knows how to play," Mattingly said. "He's still running good, he's still moving good. He hasn't played in a year, but his at-bats have been pretty good."

Figgins has played in four of the Dodgers' five games so far, and he is 2-for-8 with two walks.

Clayton Kershaw makes the start for the Dodgers, his second of the spring.

Following Kershaw on the mound in Phoenix will be Pedro Baez, Carlos Frias, Brandon League, Jarret Martin and Seth Rosin.

Scheduled reserves for the Dodgers on Monday are Brendan Harris at third base, Joc Pederson in center field, Miguel Rojas at shortstop, Clint Robinson at first base, Mike Baxter in left field, Drew Butera at catcher and Alex Guerrero at second base.
