Alex Guerrero healthy, joins Triple-A Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE -- Dodgers infielder Alex Guerrero has recovered enough from his strained oblique to join Triple-A Albuquerque, the team announced before Saturday's game against Tacoma at Isotopes Park.

In a corresponding move, Brendan Harris was released.

Guerrero, 27, his .300/.400/.500 in 17 games in the Cactus League but lost out on the second base job to Dee Gordon to start the season. The Dodgers wanted Guerrero to get regular at-bats after not playing much competitive baseball for the better part of a year after defecting from Cuba.

Guerrero was on the Dodgers' active roster for their trip to Australia and appeared in both games, and struck out in his only plate appearance, as a pinch hitter. He was optioned to Triple-A on March 25, then strained his oblique one day later in an intrasquad workout before the Freeway Series at Dodger Stadium.

A little more than two weeks later, Guerrero is back, though he isn't starting Saturday for the Isotopes. Carlos Triunfel gets the call at second base for Albuquerque, with Miguel Rojas at shortstop against Tacoma. Trayvon Robinson starts at designated hitter.

The Dodgers signed Guerrero to a four-year, $28 million contract in October, and 2014 is the only season of the deal during which they can assign him to the minor leagues without his consent.

Harris was signed to a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training. He was 3-for-22 (.136) with four walks in 17 games during spring training, and was reassigned to minor league camp on March 10. The 33-year-old infielder was 5-for-15 (.333) with a double and four walks in six games with the Isotopes this season.
