Clayton Kershaw 'felt good, felt heathy, ready to go' in first rehab start

Clayton Kershaw pitched his first game in 6 weeks as he makes his first rehab start at Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga - Clayton Kershaw made his California League debut at LoanMart Field, pitching five innings, allowing a run, two hits, a walk and six strikeouts on 56 pitches.

His first comment after the game was that he "felt good, felt healthy" and that he was "ready to go."

Kershaw said it was like a "spring training start" and he was more concerned with "health than results."

Kershaw was happy with all his pitches and he didn't mind the combination of short pitch count innings with longer ones since that was closer to what happens in the big leagues.

Kershaw thought Tyler Ogle called a great game, he only shook him off a few times.

Kershaw added "It was fun, I had a good time and everything kind of went to plan."

Kershaw doesn't anticipate any problems cropping up after this start saying "I feel fine now, obviously you have to make sure tomorrow but I don't foresee anything being problem in the morning."

Manager Don Mattingly said earlier Friday he was "pretty firm" that Kershaw would make more than one minor league rehab start, but he also wouldn't commit to what's up next for the left-hander.

"We'll see where he's at. He'll throw another pen then we'll make a decision from there," Mattingly said.

Kershaw will also be bringing back to Dodger Stadium a Brian Wilson beard-bobble-head saying that Wilson wants one so he'll deliver it to him.
