Dee Gordon is 2nd-fastest Dodger to reach 30 steals in a season

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Gordon reached 30 steals faster than any major leaguer in five years, when current teammate Carl Crawford was in Tampa Bay.

With his steal of second base in the seventh inning on Sunday against the Phillies, Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon became the first major leaguer in 2014 with 30 stolen bases. Gordon reached the mark in 51 team games, the secon-fastest in Dodgers history to achieve the milestone.

Gordon stole second in the first inning, then stole again in the seventh, both off A.J. Burnett. It was the seventh game this season in which Gordon has stolen multiple bases.

The last major leaguer to reach 30 steals as fast as Gordon was current teammate Carl Crawford, then with Tampa Bay in 2009 when he stole his 30th base in the Rays' 48th game, on his way to 60 steals on the season.

The only Dodger to reach 30 stolen bases faster than Gordon was Maury Wills, who stole his 30th base in the Dodgers' 46th game in 1965. Wills finished that season with 94 steals to lead the majors, 10 stolen bases shy of his franchise record and then-MLB record 104 steals in 1962.

Gordon reached 30 steals in 2012 in the Dodgers' 83rd team game. But he also dislocated his left thumb while sliding into third base on that 30th steal and missed two months. He finished the season with 32 stolen bases, his career high, for a few more days anyway.

The Dodgers as a team lead the majors with 58 stolen bases.
