Hanley Ramirez scratched with right shoulder injury

Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

CINCINNATI -- Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez was a late scratch from the lineup on Wednesday night against the Reds, with irritation in the A-C joint in his right shoulder, the team announced just before first pitch in Cincinnati.

On the SportsNet LA broadcast, Alanna Rizzo reported that Ramirez isn't bothered by the shoulder when he bats but more when he is fielding. He felt something during pregame infield practice and was removed as a precaution.

Ramirez, 5-for-17 with a home run (.294/.455/.471) with five RBI in five games on the road trip, was slated to bat second. Instead, third baseman Chone Figgins moved up from seventh to second and Miguel Rojas started at shortstop, batting seventh.

In 2013 Ramirez jammed his right shoulder attempting a catch while falling into the stands at Wrigley Field. The injury didn't require a trip to the disabled list but Ramirez was limited to just one pinch-hitting appearance in the next nine games.

Matt Kemp last year spent time on the disabled list with left A-C joint inflammation, a malady that kept him sidelined for the minimum 15 days, though he ultimately had offseason surgery to clean up the shoulder joint.

Ramirez has been relatively healthy this season, starting 60 of now 67 games, second on the team in both games played (62) and plate appearances (266). He is hitting .256/.346/.457, a 124 OPS+ and 129 wRC+, with 10 home runs, a team-leading 17 doubles and 38 RBI.
