2014 MLB Draft: Dodgers sign 15th-round pick Joe Broussard, per report

Crystal Logiudice-US PRESSWIRE

The 15th-round pick struck out 37 in 34⅓ innings as LSU's closer in 2014, his junior season.

The Dodgers agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Joe Broussard, their 15th-round pick out of LSU, Randy Rosetta of the Times Picayune in New Orleans reported on Wednesday night.

Terms of the deal were undisclosed. As a pick outside of the top 10 rounds, there is no set slot amount for Broussard, picked No. 459 overall. But any bonus amount over $100,000 gets counted in the Dodgers draft pool. The Dodgers in 2013 spent $300,000 on 11th-round pick Spencer Navin and $175,000 on 17th-round selection Greg Harris, resulting in $275,000 added to their bonus pool.

Broussard had some leverage as a college junior, after the 23-year-old was 3-2 with a 1.05 ERA and eight saves in 32 games in 2014, with 37 strikeouts and 17 walks in 34⅓ innings. He could have returned for his senior season with LSU.

"I’m still trying to weigh my options," Broussard told Ross Dellenger of the Baton Rouge Advocate on Tuesday. "It’s still up in the air depending on how the rest of the negotiating goes."

Broussard missed the 2013 season after Tommy John surgery. In 2012 he was teammates at LSU with a pair of fellow right-handed pitchers drafted by the Dodgers in 2014 - Christian Trent (29th round) and Carson Baranik (33rd round). Trent was a redshirt freshman with LSU and transferred to Ole Miss, and Baranik transferred to Miami-Dade College before ending up at Louisiana-Lafayette.
