Chone Figgins to DL with left quad strain, Dodgers recall Carlos Triunfel

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers on Saturday shuffled their bench a tad, placing utility man Chone Figgins on the 15-day disabled list with a left quad strain. The club recalled infielder Carlos Triunfel from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his spot.

Figgins has been a pleasant surprise this season after a year out of baseball, hitting .217/.373/.267 in 38 games, with 14 walks in 76 plate appearances. Figgins has started eight games at third base this season, four games at second base, played two more games at shortstop and once in left field.

The Dodgers mostly utilized Figgins as a pinch hitter earlier in the season. He started twice in the team's first 47 games, with a brief option to Triple-A mixed in, but since Juan Uribe was placed on the disabled list on May 21 the 36-year-old Figgins has started 10 of the last 22 games.

Triunfel was hitting .212/.253/.263 with six doubles and a home run in 51 games for Triple-A Albuquerque, and played shortstop, second base and third base for the Isotopes. The 24-year-old was claimed off waivers from Seattle on April 2.

Triunfel will wear No. 45 with the Dodgers, the same number he wore when he was briefly up with the team in April for one game but didn't play.
