Dodgers bubbles don't burst against Rockies

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers added a new wrinkle to their dugout dance party, used whenever someone hits a home run, and decided to give the new celebration a workout on Tuesday night. The Dodgers hit three home runs en route to a 4-2 win over the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers, 4-1 on their current homestand with one game left, have their first winning homestand of the season. And they nearly ran out of bubbles.

Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run home run to right field in the third inning, and in addition to the expected dance party back in the dugout was greeted with bubbles. The only thing missing amid the celebration was Lawrence Welk.

Matt Kemp added a solo shot in the fourth inning, his second home run of the homestand and sixth extra-base hit in his last 11 games. Kemp has a six-game hitting streak, during which he is 10-for-23 (.435).

The Rockies chipped away at the 3-0 lead, with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh. Zack Greinke escaped more damage in the sixth, stranding the tying runs at second and third base. He needed a season-high 117 pitches to get through six innings, but delivered the sixth consecutive quality start by a Dodgers pitcher and 19th in their last 25 games.

Ramirez got hit on his right ring finger by a line drive double by Corey Dickerson in the seventh inning, and left the game with a contusion, but his replacement was up to the task.

Carlos Triunfel homered to left field in the bottom of the inning to widen the lead to 4-2, his first major league home run. With his second hit in as many at-bats in as many nights, Triunfel is one of a quartet of Dodgers hitting 1.000 in two at-bats. Triunfel, Kip Gross, Chet Kehn and Pete Browning are all 2-for-2 in their Dodgers careers.

The Dodgers hit three home runs in a game for the fifth time this season, and the second time at home.

A.J. Ellis got a hit and a walk for the fourth time in four games since returning from the disabled list and has walked in a career-high six straight games.

In a game that was close and hard fought all night, it was only fitting that the Rockies put the tying runs on base in the ninth inning, but Kenley Jansen was able to recover for his 20th save of the season, and his 16th straight conversion.
