Streaking Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers go for first home sweep

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw look for a pair of firsts in their series finale against the Rockies on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Having won four of five games on the current homestand, the Dodgers try for their first sweep in 12 home series in 2014 in the finale before hitting the road again.

Wednesday marks the ninth time Kershaw and Zack Greinke have started back-to-back this season. In each of the previous eight pairings this season the Dodgers have split both games. Greinke and the Dodgers won Tuesday night.

In 2013, Kershaw and Greinke started back-to-back games 27 times and the Dodgers won both games 12 times. They split 14 times and lost both once.

Kershaw is working on quite a month of June. The left-hander has won all three starts with a 1.80 ERA, and in his 20 innings has 25 strikeouts against just one walk. Kershaw was named National League Pitcher of the Month in July 2013 with 43 strikeouts and just two walks, to go along with a 1.34 ERA and four wins.

Kershaw has walked zero or one batter in seven of his nine starts this season and the result is a strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.88) nearly double both of his Cy Young Award winning campaigns (4.59 in 2011, 4.46 in 2013).

In his career at home against the Rockies, Kershaw is 5-2 with a 1.58 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 27 walks in 62⅔ innings, and in six of those 10 starts has allowed no runs.

Jorge De La Rosa in his career has a 3.70 ERA at Dodger Stadium, including 3.47 as a starter, but his teams had never won a game he pitched in Los Angeles until his win on April 27, when he allowed just one run over seven innings in a 6-1 Colorado win in De La Rosa's seventh career start at Chavez Ravine.
