Clayton Kershaw no-hits Rockies

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES -- Clayton Kershaw painted his masterpiece on Wednesday night, throwing his first no-hitter in leading the Dodgers to an 8-0 shutout and a sweep of the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

It was the second no-hitter by a Dodger this season, joining teammate Josh Beckett, who no-hit the Phillies on May 25 in Philadelphia.

In the 192nd start of Kershaw's brilliant career, he struck out 15 and walked none. The strikeouts set a new career high for Kershaw, who has an absurd 86 strikeouts against only eight walks all season.

The only runner to reach base against Kershaw did so by error, an errant throw by Hanley Ramirez to lead off the seventh inning, allowing Corey Dickerson to reach. But that was but a speed bump for Kershaw, who stranded him at third and won his fourth straight start.

The no-hitter is the 22nd by a Dodgers pitcher, the most by any franchise. It is the first no-hitter at Dodger Stadium since Ramon Martinez no-hit the Marlins on July 14, 1995.

The Dodgers jumped on Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa early, scoring two runs in a 28-pitch first inning. They added a pair of RBI doubles from Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp to make it 4-0, then loaded the bases. Miguel Rojas collected the first extra-base hit of his career at an opportune time, driving in three runs to blow the game wide open in the third inning.

The Dodgers have struggled all season with the bases loaded and even after the Rojas hit are 7-for-46 on the season, hitting .152/.180/.239. But in their last three at-bats with the bases loaded they have gotten doubles by Dan Haren and Rojas.

But the night belonged to Kershaw. More to come.
