KANSAS CITY -- Dodgers outfield prospect Joc Pederson is expected to miss at least 10 days with a mild shoulder separation, suffered on a diving catch attempt for Triple-A Albuquerque in Tuesday afternoon's game in Iowa.

An MRI exam showed a Grade 1 separation of the A-C joint of Pederson's right shoulder, and after examination by the Isotopes team physician in Albuquerque the diagnosis was confirmed.

The Dodgers say Pederson's return will depend on how the outfielder feels in the next few days, but he is expected to miss at least 10 days.

"It didn't sound like anything long-term," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old is hitting .319/.437/.568 with 17 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 58 runs scored and 57 walks in 74 games. Pederson was ranked as the Dodgers top prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2014 season and is widely recognized as a top-50 prospect in all of baseball.

Pederson injured his right shoulder trying to catch a single to right center field by Josh Vitters in the first inning on Tuesday in Iowa. After getting examined team trainer Yosuke Nakajima and manager Damon Berryhill, Pederson was removed from the game.
