LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers made a roster move after their 1-0 win over the Padres on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, optioning relief pitcher Pedro Baez to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The team didn't yet make a corresponding move, and doesn't really have to until Friday in St. Louis, where the Dodgers open a three-game series against the Cardinals.

Baez was recalled from Triple-A on Tuesday and pitched a scoreless inning in the Dodgers' 14-5 loss to the Tigers in Detroit. In a pair of major league stints this season Baez allowed two runs on two hits in two innings with two strikeouts and one home run allowed.

The 26-year-old former third baseman is 2-1 with nine saves in 34 games across Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Albuquerque this season, with a 3.57 ERA, 35 strikeouts and 13 walks in 35⅓ innings. Since joining the Isotopes he has a 4.50 ERA in 17 games but also 17 strikeouts and just four walks in his 16 innings.

Up next

The Dodgers have four days off before starting a three-game series against the Cardinals on Friday, with Dan Haren pitching against a yet-to-be-named St. Louis starter.

But first, for four Dodgers, Target Field in Minnesota awaits. Yasiel Puig takes center stage Monday with the Home Run Derby, and we will likely find out Cardinals manager Mike Matheny's decision on whether Adam Wainwright or Clayton Kershaw will start on Tuesday.

Hyun-jin Ryu offered his thoughts on how Puig might do on Monday night.

"He'll be fine, because Puig does a home run derby every BP," Ryu quipped.
