Grant Holmes was outstanding in his professional debut - Rich Schultz

Grant Holmes, the Dodgers 2014 1st round pick, struck out 5 of the 7 batters he faced in his professional debut

Minor League Player of the Day – Grant Holmes (Rookie) - 2 IP, 0 hits, 1 walk, 5 K's.  Holmes

AAA Game 1 – The Isotopes hit a couple of late homers then had to hold on for a 5 - 4 victory over El Paso (Padres) in game one of their double header.  Alex Liddi doubled in the first run of the game, and Erisbel Arruebarrena singled home Liddi one batter later.  Then in the 6th Albuquerque had back to back homers as Johnny Monell's solo shot followed up Griff Erickson's 2-run bomb.  That proved to be the difference as reliever Drew Carpenter ended up allowing 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th before Yimi Garcia came in and stopped the bleeding.  Jose Dominguez pitched the 7th and final inning of the shortened game and recorded his 6th save.  One other note is that Scott Elbert made his first rehab appearance for the Isotopes and tossed a hitless frame that included a walk and a strikeout.

AAA Game 2 – The Isotopes dropped the second game of their double header 9 to 5 after the Chihuahuas (Padres)scored 7 in the 5th.  Starter Carlos Frias got through the first 3 innings while allowing just 1 run on 2 hits, but then Matt Magill took over and quickly gave up 6 more scores.  At the plate Brian Cavazos-Galvez went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and his double was the Topes only extra base hit.  Tim Federowicz also drove in a pair with a couple of singles.

AA – The Lookouts came up just short on Wednesday as Chattanooga fell to Birmingham (White Sox) 7 to 6Andres Santiago gave up the first 6 runs of the game, although only 3 of those were earned.  Robert Carson was the one who took the loss, however, after he allowed the eventual winning run to score in the 8th.  At the dish Daniel Mayora led the way by going 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI, while Bobby Coyle also had a two-bagger and drove in a pair

HiA – The Quakes squeaked out a 2 - 1 win over the Mavericks (Mariners) thanks to solid pitching and timely hitting.  Starter Tom Windle tossed a great game as he allowed 4 hits and 1 run 6 frames.  Craig Stem followed with 2 shutout frames that included 3 K's, then Daniel Coulombe recorded his 4th save of the year.  Despite just 2 runs Rancho pounded out 11 hits, including 2 each from Corey Seager, Brandon Dixon, and Adam LawAaron Miller and Chris Jacobs drove in the only runs on a sac fly and a single, respectively.

LoA – The Loons had their wings clipped in a 5 - 4 loss to the Silver Hawks (Dbacks).  The Great Lakes pitching staff allowed just 5 hits in this game, and all of them came within the first 3 innings as starter Brandon Martinez gave up all 5 runs.  A quartet of relievers got through the final 5.2 frames without permitting a hit, including two perfect innings from newcomer Matt Campbell.  At the dish Joey Curletta drove in 3 of the club's 4 runs on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.  Brandon Trinkwon's double was the Loons only extra base hit.

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors are finally starting to get on track as they downed the Chukars (Royals) 10 to 5.  Ogden scored early and often, including a first inning 2-run homer from Justin ChigboguJulian Leon added another 2-run bomb later in the game, while Colin Hering drove in 3 thanks to a double and a single.  On the mound Abdiel Velasquez tossed 6 solid frames as he allowed just 2 earned runs.  Lenix Osuna followed with scoreless relief, and while Vaughn Hayward permitted a couple of late runs to score the contest was already in hand.

Rookie Arizona – This game was all about 2014 1st round pick Grant Holmes as the Arizona Dodgers downed the Mariners 5 to 2.  While Carlos Felix got the start and allowed just 1 hit over 3 scoreless frames, Holmes stole the show by striking out 5 of the 7 batters he faced.  I didn't see a whole lot of reports out of Arizona, but apparently one of his K's was on a 96 mph fastball.  A trio of relievers followed Grant, including MJ Villegas who recorded his first save of the year.  On offense Deivy Castillo continued his hot streak with 2 more hits, while Clint Freeman went 2 for 5 with a doubles and 2 RBI's.  Scott De Jong also knocked in a pair with a couple of singles.

DSL – The Dominican Dodgers prevailed over the Indians 5 to 4 in 11 innings on Wednesday.  Down by 3 early, the Dodgers rallied back for 3 in the 8th to tie the game.  After the clubs exchanged runs in the 10th, the good guys went up for good in the top of the 11th on a Cristian Santana RBI single.  Carlos Aquino also contributed with a big day at the plate as he went 3 for 4 with a trio of doubles.  Six different pitchers threw for the Dodgers in this game but none of them did anything noteworthy on the mound.

Coming up – Everyone plays tomorrow afternoon/evening, starting with the Raydel Sanchez and the Lookouts at 3:15 pm PST.  Scott Barlow and the Loons then kick things off at 4:05, Stephen Fife and the Isotopes follow at 5:35, and Chris Anderson and the Quakes play at 7:05.  The Raptors, Arizona Dodgers, and Dominican Dodgers haven't announced their starters.

Minor League Transactions – AAA: The recently acquired Brock Peterson joined the Isotopes while Jeremy Hazelbaker was sent back to Chattanooga.  AA: Garrett Gould was placed on the 7-day DL and in a corresponding move Josh Ravin was activated from the disabled list.
