AFL 10/18/12 recap: Joc Pederson more than halfway to Eugenio Velez

Brandon Lennox | True Blue LA

Dodgers outfield prospect extends his hitless streak to 19 at-bats in Thursday's loss.

The Mesa Solar Sox lost 8-3 to the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday, the fourth straight loss in the Arizona Fall League for the Dodgers' contingent. Outfielder Joc Pederson continued his slump.

Pederson played center field and batted leadoff on Thursday, and was 0-for-4, and is 0-for-19 through five games. He does have two walks and three strikeouts, but the 16 times he had put the ball in play have resulted in outs.

Andres Santiago made his second start for Mesa, and took the loss (0-1). Santiago allowed three runs on three hits in three innings of work, with five walks and four strikeouts. Chris Reed allowed two runs of his own in the fifth inning, with two walks, and has a 15.00 ERA in four games.

Eric Eadington, also pitching in his fourth AFL game, pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Rafael Ynoa, who batted second behind behind Pederson, went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to six games. He has a hit in all six games he has played and is hitting .381/.458/.571 in the early going.

Coming up: Mesa will try to snap their four-game losing streak in a 12:35 p.m. start on Friday against the Phoenix Desert Dogs, who have lost three straight games of their own. Tigers prospect Luke Putkonen starts for Mesa. Dodgers' third round pick Onelki Garcia has yet to pitch in any of the first nine games for the Solar Sox.
