Arizona Fall League Friday recap: Griff Erickson steals home

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Dodgers catcher Gorman "Griff" Erickson stole home for Mesa on Friday, and is hitting .300/.417/.400 in the Arizona Fall League.

The Mesa Solar Sox were so starved for a win that on Friday they utilized an unorthodox strategy. Dodgers catcher Gorman Erickson stole home for Mesa, plating the tying run in the 8-4 win by the Solar Sox, snapping their 10-game winless streak.

Erickson went 1-for-2 with a double and three walks Friday in his fifth start behind the plate for Mesa. One of his walks came in the sixth inning, then he advanced to third on a single. Javier Baez, who singled, broke for second and reached safely, and Erickson stole home to tie the game at 4-4. I can only assume Erickson stole on the throw to second and didn't go full Rod Carew with a straight steal.

Rafael Ynoa showed he is in face human with an 0-for-5 day, to snap his hitting streak at 12 games.

The good news for Dodgers pitcher Eric Eadington is that both outs he recorded on Friday were strikeouts. The bad news is that he walked three, allowed a bunt single and two runs. Eadington's 7.11 ERA is second best among the four Dodgers pitchers who have pitched for the Solar Sox.

Friday box score

Coming up: Mesa will send Orioles pitcher Mike Wright to the mound at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday against the Salt River Rafters. Diamondbacks pitcher Chase Anderson gets the start for Salt River.
