AFL 11/6/12 recap: Onelki Garcia makes Fall League debut

The 2012 3rd round pick starts the game and fires two shutout innings, but Mesa is blanked 7 - 0

Dodger pitchers made news in Mesa's 7 - 0 loss to the Saguaros on Tuesday, but the biggest surprise was seeing Onelki Garcia's name in the box score. After a rumored oblique strain had sidelined the lefty until now, Garcia actually drew the start and continued his professional success by tossing a pair of scoreless frames. He was perfect in the 1st inning, and while he allowed a hit and a walk in the 2nd, he got out of the jam by striking out the final batter he faced.

Fellow Dodger Andres Santiago took over in the 3rd, but that's when things got ugly as the 2012 breakout prospect got rocked in what was by far his worst AFL outing. The right hander was torched for 8 hits and 7 runs, and the big blow was a 3-run homer that Andres allowed. It ballooned his ERA to an unsightly 7.02 and his batting average against to .303.

After Santiago left the game the Mesa bullpen was actually very good as they shutout Surprise for the next 5.1 innings, including 1.1 perfect frames from Red Patterson.

At the plate Mesa failed to record an extra base hit as they managed just 6 singles in the contest. Rafael Ynoa was the only Dodger in the lineup as the team's shortstop, and he went 1 for 3 with a strikeout.
