Today's game will determine whether the next start for Chris Carpenter will be on three days rest or 179 days rest.

Vicente Padilla and Joel Pineiro have started against one another just one previous time in their career.  On April 20, 2006, Padilla allowed just one run over seven innings for the Rangers, while Pineiro allowed three runs in 5.1 innings for the Mariners.  Neither pitcher got a decision in the 4-3 Texas win.  Pineiro appeared as a reliever twice in games started by Padilla, and Padilla won both games.

Just to clear up some confusion.  Last night it was reported by the Dodgers that Russell Martin passed Johnny Roseboro for most steals by a catcher in Dodger history, with his 60th career swipe.  In fact, Martin already held the record before last night.  Martin has 58 steals as a catcher in his career (plus one as a third baseman and one as a pinch hitter), while Roseboro had 56 of his 59 steals in a Dodger uniform as catcher from 1957-1967.

Matt Kemp's batting average will be at .2998 if he has hits in his first two at-bats.

Andre Ethier is still one home run away from tying the record of most home runs at Dodger Stadium in a season, with 23.

Vicente Padilla is 5-1 with a 3.12 ERA in eight day game starts this season.
