The 25-year-old right-hander allowed two home runs and four runs in his two Cactus League contests.
"With our starting pitching the way it is, there's going to be games where these guys basically take all the innings," said manager Don Mattingly. "The extra innings are getting few and far between, and I don't want to drag them on the road and maybe they'll pitch. These guys need to get ready, and we can always bring them back if we need them for a game."
The Venezuelan right-hander was signed on Nov. 16 after seven seasons in the White Sox minor league system. Infante, 25, was 4-1 with a 3.66 ERA in 20 relief appearances with Triple-A Charlotte in 2012, with 20 strikeouts and 16 walks in 32 innings.
Infante pitched in just two Cactus League games but allowed four runs while recording four outs. His 27.00 ERA came courtesy of allowing six of his 10 batters faced to reach base, plus two home runs allowed. Infante now joins minor league camp, with Tuesday the day that pitchers and catchers officially report, though many have been in camp for some time.
The total number of non-roster invitees that remain in big league camp is 14.
