Selling Out

If you have eyeballs, you've noticed the new ads that have appeared on this site. The bossman tells the whole story.

we're putting up ads to try and fund a complete redesign of the sites (and therefore make the ads much more natural in the design).  These ads are just rotating placement ads to show big companies what the placement is like.

We're trying to make them as unobtrusive as possible, but we can't move the top banner ad.  That's the one advertisers are paying the most for right now.  We're going to try and make it more seamless in the coming weeks and less obtrusive, but for now, it's going to stay the way it is.  As for the ads in the middle of the post, well, I thought those were pretty obscure and advertisers also love those for some strange reason.

Now, I hate ads too, and if it were up to me, they wouldn't be here, but I don't fault Blez for actually wanting to make money off SBN. Thanks for understanding.

Drew
It looks like there's more than one sellout now, as Drew opted out of the last three years of his contract.  I would assume that this is purely about money, considering Drew's history.  It looks like Drew (or Boras) thinks that can Drew will command more than 11 million a year in such a weak OF market.  Given his injury history, and his lackluster homerun total (even though Drew was solid this whole season), I have my doubts whether he'll be able to command that much money, although I think the big issue is his injury history.  I was always under the impression that Drew got so much money to begin with because DePodesta really wanted Drew.

Personally, I can't help but feel a little relieved by this.  It's going to be hard to replace Drew with a player in this market, but I was consistently worried about Drew's health.  I really just do not feel comfortable giving such a big deal to such an injury-prone player, Dreifort being the most notable example.  My first solution would be to install Matt Kemp in right field.  It's been said he'll have to switch to the corners, and he might be ready by now.  I may have an overinfatuation with rookies, but the whole point of this crop of youngsters was to actually use them in the majors.  It'd be nice if 2/3 of our OF cost about 800 grand.  I'd like to see us make a move for Crawford and install him in CF.  I think he might be able to play the position well enough.  I only bring up his name because I keep on reading that Tampa Bay is willing to trade him.

Regardless of what we do, whether we re-sign Drew, trade for somebody, etc., I think this offseason will now show everybody how good (or bad) of a GM Ned Colletti is.  I think Ned Colletti's worst ability is trading.  He sells low and buys high.  However, I also have the impression that one of his better abilities is learning from his mistakes.  It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Sellout
No need to apologize for having ads. When you pour your heart and soul into something, you shouldn't have to pour in your cash also.
