Around SBN: 2011 In Extreme Home Runs

Ha Ha

The Giants signed Aaron "Thank God we got Andruw Jones so we didn't end up having to pay Aaron" Rowand to be their centerfielder for the next five years. Financial terms haven't been disclosed, but I'm guessing for somewhere between 60 and 75 million. Update>>60 million.

With this signing, the Giants starting lineup looks like this if they don't mess with their 40 man roster any further.

LF Roberts
RF Winn
CF Rowand
2B Durham
1B Aurilia
C Molina
SS Vizquel
3B No idea, Fransden? Denker?

Dave Roberts gets the honor of being a key contributor to two of the worst offenses in recent history. In order to upgrade their offense from "inexorably bad" to "incomprehensibly bad" the Giants forfeit their second round pick due to Rowand's type A status.

As if this signing couldn't get any better, with Fukudome and Rowand off the market, it almost guarantees the Padres will be using Scott Hairston as their centerfielder for a while. It's a good day to be a Dodger fan.

Grant's meltdown at McCovey Chronicles should be very entertaining, stay tuned for that.

Update>>He didn't disappoint.

A good way to show our superiority over the Giants right now is to vote for our top 30 prospects and see exactly how many of them would qualify for the top five in the Giants' organization.

Update>>I love to see responses like this from Giants' fans.

THIS MADE ME PUNCH A BABY IN THE FACE.

I could do this all day.

I'm not surprised by the Rowand signing... in fact, it's almost like a metaphor for Sabean's recent, CF-signin' career. Like Rowand, Sabean has chased after an object with full, unbridled force. The object could, possibly, have been attained, if the correct path was taken to it. However, the smart route was not taken, with Sabean and Rowand bloody and broken, face first into a wall. In Rowand's case, it was a ball. In Sabean's case, it's a World Series Ring

Sabean collects centerfielders like Ned used to collect shortstops.

Re:
Speaking of which I sure wouldn't mind Carlos Guillen to be our 2nd baseman in 09. Detroit can't really be serious about making him a 1st baseman already can they?

Re
He's signed until 2011.

what about
the inevitable Cabrera to 1st, Guillen to third switch?

Is trying Scott Hairston in CF really that bad?
Hairston has had pretty good minor league numbers.  He has HR power, and can draw walks.

Plus he doesnt cost anything.

Re
It's more of the fact that he wasn't that good of a left fielder.

Am I a bad person?
I started giggling mercilessly to every Giants fan I   know after this signing. And since I go to school in the Bay, there's quite a lot of them.

... Poor bastards. Never again shall any crap I hear about Pierre go unanswered. ROWAND! Thanks for the fuel, Sabean.

Oh, and I think the Giants are committed to playing Frandsen (SJSU's finest) everyday. Why, you ask? They have no one better (snicker).

Re
Sadly, at least Rowand has shown he can be good.
