Yadier Molina. Seriously.
Just further proof that no matter how much you study the game, anything can happen. Only one of ESPN's 17 experts picked the Cardinals to make it to the NLCS, let alone the World Series. Out of the 17 men, none of them managed to correctly predict either of the World Series participants.
According to Baseball Prospectus' "secret sauce" formula, which looks at how much a team excels at the factors that lead to post season success, the Cardinals were by far the least likely team to advance to the World Series.
Heck, after that near total meltdown the Cardinals had at the end of the season, I doubt many of their fans picked them to make it to the World Series.
Yet as we reach the World Series, the same people that failed to get either of the World Series participants right are now saying the Tigers are going to steamroll the Cardinals. Didn't they learn anything? You can't predict a seven game series, just sit back and enjoy it. Unless you're someone like me, who detests both teams, in which case, sit back and see how many bad managerial decisions are made.
In the interest of full disclosure, I too had the Cardinals and Tigers being eliminated in the first round.
