The Solution

The biggest argument for the Pierre deal has been, "well, who else do you put out there?" Until now, the answer flucuated between "Jay Payton" and "uhhh...I don't know, Repko?" Neither of which provides a compelling counter argument.

Suddenly, the answer came to me: Jose Cruz Jr. Now, I realize that Cruz stinks, but even in his worst season, he could still put up a Juan Pierre like .730 OPS as well as the Juan Pierre like mediocre defense, and without the Juan Pierre noodle arm. Ever better, Cruz could likely be had for a one year commitment and under a million dollars.

How broken is baseball's economics system when Jose Cruz Jr., a player who even if you assume the worst isn't that much less productive than Pierre, can't find a team when Pierre gets showered in riches.
