Open Thread: Game 59 - vs. New York Mets

After dropping the first game of the series, the Dodgers have the challenge of salvaging wins against Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine. To accomplish the task, they send Derek Lowe to the mound tonight. Lowe has put in a commendable, if quiet, performance this year. Expect him to put up a fight tonight.

On draft day, with eyes to the future, it's fun to see Kemp out there. However, I wonder whatever happened to young Andre Ethier. Remember him? Also, does it seem strange to anyone else that our worst outfielder is starting in center tonight? I mean, I get Drew moving to right to accommodate Milton Bradley. Fine, Bradley had seniority. But does anyone really think Lofton is an above average outfielder at this point? I'm sure in his youth his athleticism made up for his circuitous routes to the ball, but today he doesn't have that luxury. His hitting makes him a starter, but his fielding makes him a left fielder.

Still, we need a win against class competition, and Lowe is going to have to concentrate to deliver. Hopefully the bats will be lively as well.

Go Blue.
