Open Thread: Game 89 - @ St. Louis Cardinals

Ready for the second half of the season.  Penny started the All Star game going two innings and giving up a home run to Vlad Guerrero.  Nomar didn't get into the game.  Wouldn't you have the league's leading hitter bat in the bottom of the ninth down one run?

The Dodgers are two games behind San Diego going into tonight's game and leading the wild card.  I am still not fond of the wild card.  The Dodgers lead the NL in batting average (.284), and OBP (.357).  They are second in runs scored (471) but 16th in home runs (76).  The team ERA of 4.35 is 5th, which is respectable.

Just when I was hoping Bill Plaschke had quit writing about baseball for the LA Times he had a column on Wednesday complaining about the Penny trade and the resulting injuries to Gagne.  Yes, he connected the two.  More on that later the game is starting soon.

Andre Ethier was named NL Player of the week

Kent is back in the line-up.
