Open Thread: Game 87 - vs. San Francisco Giants

Dodgers win a close exciting game to stay within a game of first place.

Nomar endeared himself to Dodger fans with his 8th inning homerun to beat the hated Giants.  Nomar now has a 19 game hitting streak and is hitting .558 from the 7th inning on.  Drew has a 13 game hitting streak going.  The batters are doing their job.

Lofton does not make the two catches that Matt Kemp made in the 6th and 7th both saving a run.

Thank you Moises Alou for misplaying two balls leading to runs for Russell Martin.

Speaking of Martin, he is great to watch both catching and batting.  I would still like to have Navarro on the bench to give Martin a rest.

The 4 shortstop infield is doing ok.  Furcal may be returning to the form he had with the Braves.

I know the Kemp sacrifice in the 8th inning was the "by the book" play (has anyone seen this book?), but it was Kemp's first attempted sacrifice.  The way he hits, why take the bat out of his hand?

Gagne is having back surgery today.  Doctors say he will be ready for spring training.  The question will be in what uniform.  Hope he has a quick and complete recovery.

Bonds is sitting this one out.

Note to Ned Colletti:  A good number 3 pitcher could make a difference in winning the division.
Go Blue.
