After reading this post from Where Have You Gone Andy Van Slyke, I was playing around with the Lineup Analysis tool from Baseball Musings. After putting in the Dodgers 2007 ZIPS projections, I learned that all of the ideal Dodger lineups feature Juan Pierre batting ninth, after the pitcher.
I'm sure some more useful data will come from this, but that tickled the ol' funny bone.
Update>>I was dissapointed that when I looked at the results for the Pirates, they also had the pitcher hitting in the eight hole. Maybe there's nothing special about Juan Pierre. When I switched the model over to 1959-2004, the pitcher then dropped to the nine spot. I was dissapointed, but when I tried the same thing for the Dodgers, Juan Pierre stayed firmly in the ninth spot. Good times.
