Open Thread: Game 1 - @ Milwaukee Brewers

New, comments

After being isolated from Dodger news for the last three days, I got back from Vegas and found out the Dodgers had finalized their roster. Wilson Valdez makes it? It's a bit disappointing, but it was expected and ultimately meaningless if he's sent down once Rafael Furcal comes off the disabled list. Matt Kemp makes the roster? That one is a shock. What's bizarre and ultimately incredibly frustrating is that Kemp will only be used as a backup player. Kemp has incredible amounts of talent, but has shown some holes his game. Can he fix those holes getting only seven or eight at bats a week? I can't say for sure, but it would seem like he would be much better off starting in AAA. If the Dodgers figure that Kemp has fixed those holes, then why isn't he starting for the Dodgers? It seems like James Loney, who looks much more like a finished product, would be better in this role.

The Dodgers also acquired Tomas Perez from the Cubs for the right to not have Tomas Perez on their team.  I doubt he'll do much more than backup Chin Lung Hu and Tony Abreu in AAA Las Vegas, so I don't really care that he's a completely valueless player.

Anyway, after six months of waiting, it's time for Dodger baseball once again.
