I've got time tonight so I'm running the July numbers tonight instead of waiting for one more game.
A lot has been made of the great July that Betemit has had but with a BABIP of 50% in 35 at bats you can bet that would have come down sharply if he had been given full time at bats. That 50% is just not sustainable for any period of time. He had really bad luck in April and incredible good luck in July.
The Dodgers as a team hit in extremely good luck in July with no one in the starting lineup falling below a 30% BABIP. Gonzo is in a slump and it has nothing to do with bad luck. It may not have seemed like it but Nomar and Furcal had their best month of the year. Expect more of the same from them in Aug but expect Kent/Betemit/Etheir to come down to earth as their BABIP come down to more historical levels.
