Trying to blunt the perception that he's not about the numbers, Ned used an outside consultant to help with the decision on whether or not to tender an offer to Kyle Blair. After several days of exhaustive research it was determined that the chances of a pitcher having the 1st name of Kyle and being successful in the major leagues was just about nill, so they passed.
Kyle Davies, Kyle Lohse, and Kyle Farnwsorth were part of the reason, but when the research discovered that Kyle Peterson, Kyle Snyder, and Kyle Abbott were busted 1st round picks and Kyle Blair wanted 1st round money it became a no-brainer. Ned couldn't ignore the fact that no Kyle who had 1st round talent ever amounted to a hill of beans.
It also doesn't look good for Kyle Orr.
