Dodgers Welcome Rockies To Town

The Dodgers welcome the Rockies to Los Angeles this weekend, a team that has been a rude guest in the recent past. Colorado has won three of the past four series at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers are hot, winning five straight games and outscoring their opponents 37-10 in the process. As good as the offense has been, the starting pitching has been even better, including tonight's starter Randy Wolf. Wolf retired 16 straight batters at one point last Sunday in Arizona, and is the only Dodger starting pitcher to see the eighth inning so far this year.

Despite getting a quality start in only four of ten games, Dodger starting pitchers lead the majors in average game score (59) and are fourth in ERA (3.07). They have also held opposing batters to a .175/.269/.265 line.

Sure it's early, but so far the best three hitters on the Rockies have been three of their youngest players:

Player Age PA BA OBP SLG OPS+ wOBA
Ian Stewart 24 17 .429 .529 .714 208 .526
Dexter Fowler 23 21 .333 .400 .722 173 .476
Troy Tulowitzki
24 32 .231 .375 .654 151 .423

I don't like the idea of facing that trio for the next decade or so. Russ from Purple Row, the excellent SB Nation Rockies blog, also tells us that Huston Street and his 13.50 ERA may have lost his closer job to Manny Corpas, as soon as tonight's game.

Matt Kemp is riding a ten-game hitting streak, and is hitting .371/.410/.600. In addition, my fantasy team appreciates his three steals, including two last night against the Giants. In his career, Kemp has hit the Rockies well, to the tune of .326/.353/.574.

Actually, the Dodgers have had good success against tonight's starter, Jorge De La Rosa. Current members of the Dodgers have hit .380/.418/.620 lifetime against the Rockies' hurler. De La Rosa is 0-3 with an 8.14 ERA against the Dodgers in his career.

Tonight will mark the first night for "Loney's Lounge," a program in which the Dodger first baseman hosts several Los Angeles-area members of the RBI program. Last night against the Giants marked the first night for "Pierre's Pack," which hosts several kids from inner city after school programs as guests of the Dodger outfielder.

Be sure to get your guesses for tonight's final score and winning pitcher here. To date, we still don't have a multiple winner.
