It's been a slow news day in Dodgertown, so rather than analyze tonight's matchup I want to update the status of my 50-Walk Challenge. If the Dodgers, who lead the maors with 84 walks (almost five per game), have eight players get 50 walks this season, I will donate $100 to Think Cure. Through 17 games, here are the stats and pace for the eight Dodger regulars:
Things are looking great so far, with only Casey Blake barely off the pace.
Tonight, the Dodgers hope the third time is the charm for James McDonald, who has yet to pitch five innings this season in his two starts. Looking at the bright side, McDonald has started nine different innings this season, and he has completed seven of those frames scoreless. The only inning he was scored upon was the opening of the floodgates in the third inning two weeks ago in Arizona.
Ubaldo Jimenez, touched up for seven runs in 4.1 innings last Sunday at Dodger Stadium, hopes to rebound for the Rockies tonight.
Manny Ramirez has a seven game hitting streak for the Dodgers, and in six of the seven games Manny had two hits. With four home runs, Manny is hitting .464/.516/.893 during his streak.
Tony Jackson gives us the lineup. The recent pattern seems to be to break up the lefties against a lefty starter, but put them back-to-back against the righthanders:
