Dodgers Hope For Religious Experience In Miami

The Dodgers start a three game series in Florida today at 4:10pm, and seem to be turning to a higher power -- the Big Dodger in the sky? -- to make things work:

  • Russell Martin has been the patron saint of patience of late, hitting .515/.636/.576 with 11 walks over his last 11 games, including the go-ahead double in the tenth inning Thursday. He has raised his OBP to .409 with this recent surge
Manny Ramirez met with his teammates today and, although no details have trickled out, it may have been a confession of sorts. At the very least, the Dodgers hope Manny's pennance will lead to pennants.
  • The Dodgers have said a Hail Mary, calling up Eric Milton to join the starting rotation beginning Saturday. The Dodgers are showing faith that Milton, who has not pitched in the majors in over two years, is healthy enough to contribute, at least until Hiroki Kuroda comes back.
  • The Dodgers hope to feast on fish on Friday

Eric Stults hopes to follow up his shutout with a start better than he did following his 2008 shutout of the White Sox, giving up four runs in 5.1 innings in Houston.

Chris Volstad, who boasts a 148 ERA+ after 21 major league starts, and who shut down the Dodgers in his first major league start last July, will start for the Marlins.
