John Ely makes his third start for the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Arizona. If Ely can pitch at least six innings tonight, he would be the first Dodger since Edwin Jackson in 2003 to begin his major-league career with three starts all six innings or longer since Pedro Astacio pitched six or more innings in five starts to start his career.
Diamondbacks starter Dan Haren has made eleven starts against the Dodgers in his career. He is 4-4 with a 3.52 ERA against LA with a 3.16 K/BB ratio which is one of the lowest ratios Haren has vs. any team he's started against ten or more times; only the Giants and Rangers have done better.
Andre Ethier is ridiculously hot. He is currently sporting a .393 batting average. Per the Dodgers Daily Notes, the last Dodger to tickle the edges of a .400 average this far into the season was Willie Davis who was batting .395 after LA's first 32 games in 1971.
Other Notes
- Rafael Furcal was going play with Albuquerque in Colorado Springs on a rehab assignment, but that was change due to weather concerns. He will play some games with the Inland Empire 66ers before joining the big club in San Diego on Friday.
- The last Dodger team to start 15-17 was the 2006 team that made the playoffs as an 88-win Wild Card entry.
- Did you know that Reed Johnson has a blog? Only three entries this season though.
