Rafael Furcal has been placed on the bereavement list and has returned to the Dominican Republic to tend to an ailing family member, per Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. Furcal will miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games, so the earliest he could return in Sunday in Boston.

Chin-Lung Hu was recalled from Albuquerque to take Furcal's place on the active roster. Nick Green, in a Delwynian case of bad timing, opted out of his contract and became a free agent on Wednesday, per Christopher Jackson of Examiner.com.
