The Dodgers were officially eliminated tonight with the Giants' win over the Cubs, but just in case anyone had any doubt about the math, the Dodgers also lost to the Padres for good measure, 6-0, in the series opener at Dodger Stadium.
Rafael Furcal got to third with two outs in the first inning, but that was the closest the Dodgers came to scoring off of Clayton Richard, who got the first real complete game of his career (he also had one of six innings last season).
Chad Billingsley struck out six in his five innings of work, but also walked three and gave up five runs on six hits and two hit batsmen.
A.J. Ellis continued to live the dream, collecting two more hits tonight. Ellis has nine hits in his last 11 at-bats, and is 13 for his last 18 as well.
Ted Lilly and Tim Stauffer face off in the second game of the series tomorrow night.
WP - Clayton Richard (13-8): 9 IP, 8 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts
LP - Chad Billingsley (11-11): 5 IP, 6 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks, 2 HBP, 6 strikeouts
