The Dodgers try to avoid being swept by the San Diego Padres. Joe Torre says that the team "hasn't packed it in" and that they are "frustrated" with their results of late. Torre was impressed with Tim Stauffer's pitching last night, complimenting him with the observation that "he didn't throw a ball straight" in the game. The Dodger hope Mat Latos throws a lot of straight balls tonight, as they clearly need the help.
Last night and tonight are the first times that Casey Blake has hit as low as seventh since doing so on July 20 against Tim Lincecum.
