Looking Back At 2011: Vin Scully Announces His Return

Next year will be Vin Scully's 63rd consecutive season behind the microphone for Dodgers games.

In the final week of the year, let's look back for a moment at some of the best Dodgers moments of 2011. One of my favorites came on August 26. Matt Kemp joined the 30/30 club that night, tied for the 11th fastest player in history to do so, but the big news came from the press box, as Vin Scully announced his return for a 63rd season in 2012.

"I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, you and I have been friends for a long time," Scully told the audience on Prime Ticket that Friday night. "But after a lot of soul searching and a few prayers, we’ve decided that we will come back with the Dodgers for next year. God’s been awfully good to me, allowing me to do the things I love to do. I asked him one more year at least and he said okay."

We are incredibly lucky to have Vin, and incredibly lucky that he still absolutely loves what he does. To the nicest man I have ever met, here's to a great 2012.
