The Dodger offense continues to struggle as the Dodgers were swept in a brief two-game series with San Francisco, dropping Thursday night's contest 3-1.
The Dodgers did prevent Madison Bumgarner from recording a shutout. After retiring the first two batters of the ninth inning, the Giants lefty yielded a single to Rod Barajas, then Jerry Sands stroked yet another double to deep left-center field to plate the Dodger catcher.
Giants closer Brian Wilson and his comical beard then entered the game and staggered to his 13th save of the season, walking his first two batters then having rightfielder Nate Schierholtz make a charging, diving grab of Jamey Carroll's sinking liner to end the contest.
Dodger starter Chad Billingsley recorded a quality start, going the minimum six inning and yielding the maximum three runs to qualify.
Friday's game is in Chicago as interleague play begins. Ted Lilly starts against Philip Humber of the White Sox.
