Dodgers 5/3/11 Minor League Report - Gould is Good

New, comments

I went to the Dodger game Tuesday night so this report will be a little bit shorter than normal.

Minor League Player of the DayGarrett Gould - 6 IP, 1 Win, 3 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB's, 6 K's.  Gould has made 5 starts this season, and has allowed exactly 1 run in 4 of those outings.  In the other start he only gave up 2 earned runs, and in total he has a batting average against of just .184.  So needless to say Garrett has been consistently solid all season.

AAA – Albuquerque was ahead early in their game on Tuesday, but Omaha (Royals) stormed back with 7 runs in the the final 4 innings to beat the Isotopes 7 to 5.  Starter Dana Eveland absorbed the loss with 6 runs allowed in 6.1 innings, walking 4 and giving up 2 homers.  Wilkin De La Rosa made his 2011 debut in relief, and Travis Schlichting allowed yet another run in his appearance.  At the plate, Trent Oeltjen homered and tripled to lead the team with 3 RBI's, while A.J. Ellis had another multi-hit game.  The flip side is that Dee Gordon and Trayvon Robinson combined to go 0 for 8 with 4 K's.

AA – Postponed

HiA – The Quakes and JetHawks were tied at 2 after 7 innings, but Rancho scored once in the 8th and 5 times in the 9th to defeat Lancaster (Astros) 8 to 2.  Several hitters contributed to the Quakes late rally, including Blake Smith who hit his 5th homer, and Griff Erickson who had a couple of singles and an RBI to raise his average to .388 for the season.  Austin Gallagher also helped out the team early with a homer in the 3rd inning, and reached base in 4 out of his 5 plate appearances.  Matt Magill had yet another strong outing on the mound, throwing 7 innings and allowing just 5 hits and 2 unearned runs.  He only struck out 2, but he lowered his ERA to 1.24 and won his 4th game of the season.  Steven Ames then pitched the final 1.1 innings, and recorded all of his outs via the K to pick up his 8th save of the year.

LoA – Every player in the Loons lineup had in hit except for Nick Akins, and Garrett Gould had another outstanding outing to help the Loons beat the Silver Hawks (Dbacks) 7 to 1Bryant Hernandez and Blake Dean both homered for Great Lakes, while Leon Landry continues to heat up with 2 hits in 4 at bats.  Jonathan Garcia also knocked in 2 runs.  As mentioned Gould was very good today, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 6 over 6 innings.  Gould didn't walk a batter, and recorded his 4th win of the season.  Logan Bawcom was great in relief, throwing 3 shutout innings to finish off the game while striking out 5 and allowing just 1 hit.
