Dodger minor league teams won 3 out of 5 games on Thursday, and threw were a few solid performance by Dodger prospects both on the mound and at the plate.
Minor League Player of the Day – Chris Withrow, 6 IP, 3 hits, 1 Run, 6 K's - A couple of different players almost hit for the cycle tonight, but I'm giving this award to Withrow because he really did have a strong performance. This was his best all around outing of the season, and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.
AAA – Not much to see here as the Isotopes got crushed by the Nashville Sounds (Brewers) 14 to 1. Starter Tim Redding got rocked for 10 hits and 11 runs, which increased his ERA to 6.82 for the year. Mario Alvarez gave up 3 runs in relief, but Adam Dedeaux turned things around and threw 3 shutout innings at the end of the game. Albuquerque had 8 hits in this game, 2 of them coming on doubles by JD Closser. Justin Sellers went 2 for 3, while Trayvon Robinson collected the team's only RBI.
AA – Chris Withrow pitched his best game of the season, and his bullpen also came up big as the Lookouts defeated the Mississippi Braves 7 to 1. Withrow gave up just 3 hits and 1 run over 6 solid innings, while striking out 6. Kenley Jansen followed in relief and struck out all 3 batters he faced, and Cole St. Clair returned from the DL to throw a perfect inning of his own. At the plate, Jaime Pedroza led Chattanooga with 4 hits, coming up just a homer shy of the cycle. Brian Cavazos-Galvez also had a good game as he went 2 for 2 with a couple of doubles and 2 RBI's, while Alfredo Silverio drove in 3 runs with a few singles and a sac fly.
HiA – Hong-Chin Kuo had a successful rehab appearance on Thirsty Thursday as the Quakes beat the Rawhide (Dbacks) 4 to 3. Kuo started the game and allowed 1 hit while striking out 1. Aaron Miller pitched the next 3 frames and gave up just 1 run on 5 hits, but strangely enough he didn't strike out anyone. Javy Solano threw the final 2 innings and picked up the win when Rancho scored the go-ahead run in the 8th. On offense, Angelo Songco hit his 10th homer of the year and also singled in a 2 for 4 game, while Rafael Ynoa became the second Dodger farmhand of the night to fall a homer shy of the cycle as he went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple.
LoA – Zach Lee returned to form for the Loons as the threw 5 strong innings in a 2 to 1 win over the Kernels (Angels). Lee allowed just 4 hits and 1 run as he struck out 5 and walked 1. Ryan Acosta threw 3 innings of 1-hit ball in relief, the Logan Bawcom picked up his 6th save of the year with a perfect 9th. Great Lakes had just 4 hits in hits, but they made them count as the two minor league veterans on the team came up big. Preston Mattingly hit his 1st homer of the year, while Joseph Becker collected the only other RBI for the Loons with a single.
DSL – The Dominican Dodgers got stomped by the Dominican Royals on Thursday 6 to 2. Starting pitcher Victor Araujo gave up 6 hits and 5 runs (1 earned) in 3.1 innings, although the 6'3" 17 year old Simon Binns threw 1.2 innings of shutout relief.
