The Race For 1,002: Dodgers Go For Sweep In St. Louis

The Dodgers have already won their first regular season series in St. Louis since 2003. On Wednesday afternoon, they go for their first sweep of three games or more at (any version of) Busch Stadium since 1993. The all-time series between the Dodgers and Cardinals is tied at 1,001 wins apiece.

Hiroki Kuroda gets the call for the Dodgers, having thrown seven consecutive quality starts and sporting a 2.42 ERA since the All-Star break. Kuroda has 43 strikeouts in his last 44 2/3 innings.

Andre Ethier has three singles in his last 41 at-bats. Left-hander Jaime Garcia is on the mound today, and Ethier is hitting .223/.262/.309 against southpaws this season. Ethier hasn't had on on-base percentage over .292 against lefties since 2008, and in the last three seasons has hit .216/.280/.330 in 514 plate appearances against those who throw with their left hand. Sounds like a perfect day for a day off.
