Dodgers 9/8/11 Minor League Report - Lookouts Lose Playoff Opener

Minor League Player of the DayHector Gimenez - 3 for 4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 Runs.  Nobody really had a great game on Thursday so this award goes to Gimenez who led the night with 3 hits including a homer.  Vector was the 2nd part of back to back bombs and will hopefully use his veteran leadership to help the Lookouts recover from this early playoff hole.

AAA – Season over

AA – The Lookouts plated 5 early runs, but the Smokies (Cubs) fired back for 7 scores of their own in the fateful 4th inning and went on to defeat Chattanooga 9 to 6 in game 1 of the best of 5 playoff series.  Starter Stephen Fife threw well early, but had the wheels fall of in the aforementioned 4th to the tune of 5 hits and 6 runs.  Overall Fife gave up 7 runs while striking out 4 in 3.2 innings.  Cole St. Clair allowed a homer in relief and Josh Wall also allowed a run, but Javy Solano was strong with 2 scoreless frames.  Despite the loss the Lookouts cranked out 3 homers, starting with a solo shot by Travis Denker in the 2nd inning.  Scott Van Slyke crushed a 2-run bomb in the 3rd, and was promptly followed up by a Hector Gimenez jack.  Vector had 3 total hits on the night, while Corey Smith with 2 for 4 with a double and a rare triple.  Alex Castellanos and Alfredo Silverio must have left their success in the regular season as they combined to go 0 for 9.

HiA – Playoffs start Saturday against either the Inland Empire 66ers or the Lake Elsinore Storm

LoA – Season over

Rookie Ogden – The Raptors finished their regular season with a victory as they took out the Ghosts (Rockies) 9 to 4.  Ogden now enters the postseason with a modest two-game win streak and will look to continue their success against the Orem Owlz.  A couple of homers highlighted the night as O'Koyea Dickson crushed his 13th of the season while Scott Wingo connected on his 4th.  Catcher Andrew Edge went 2 for 4 with a double while shortstop Justin Boudreaux had a single and a triple to make up for his 11th error (in just 32 games).  Starter Freddie Cabrera pitched well enough to get the win as he allowed 5 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) over 6 innings.  Relievers Mike Thomas and Robert Purpura combined for 3 hitless frames to close out the game while striking out 4.

Rookie Arizona – Season over

DSL – Season over

Coming up - The Lookouts will send Chris Withrow to the mound in Game 2 of their playoff series to try and steal a game in Tennessee before heading home on Saturday.  This game will again be on milb.tv.  Derek Cone will get the nod in the Raptors playoff opener against the rival Owlz (Angels) in a short best of 3 series that will start on the road, but will quickly move to Ogden on Saturday.
