A.J. Ellis has surgery to repair torn meniscus in his left knee

Add another to the Dodgers infirmary, as catcher A.J. Ellis on Friday had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The news broke with a tweet Sunday night from his wife on Sunday night, who sent a picture of Ellis sleeping with his knee bandaged.

The Dodgers say Ellis will be able to return to his normal offseason workout is six weeks, and will be ready for the start of spring training. Ellis joins a long list of Dodgers who will spend their offseason recovering from some sort of procedure.

Matt Kemp had surgery on Friday to repair a tear in the labrum of his left shoulder, as well as some debridement of the rotator cuff. Kemp won't be able to swing a bat until early January, but he will reportedly be ready in time for opening day.

Kenley Jansen at some point soon will undergo a cardiac ablation procedure to correct his irregular heartbeat, which has sidelined him for parts of the last two seasons. Jansen is expected to be ready in time for spring training.

Carl Crawford had Tommy John surgery on Aug. 23, and is expected to be back at full strength by May, though he might be ready as a hitter at the start of the season.

Ted Lilly had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on Sept. 21. He is expected to begin a throwing program in January, and should be ready for spring training.

Scott Elbert had arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow on Sept. 19. He is expected back for spring training.

Jerry Hairston Jr. had surgery on Sept. 10 to repair his left hip. His availability for spring training could be in question.

Justin Sellers has surgery on his lower back on Aug. 23, and is expected back in time for spring training.

Todd Coffey had Tommy John surgery on July 18, and is expected to be out until July or August 2013. The Dodgers hold a $2.5 million club option on Coffey for 2013, or a $350,000 buyout.

Blake Hawksworth had shoulder surgery on Aug. 22, and is expected to miss most if not all of next season. Hawksworth is arbitration eligible this offseason.

This list doesn't yet include Chad Billingsley, who has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He had injections of platelet-rich plasma on Aug. 30 and Sept. 5, in hopes of an alternative to surgery. He will continue his throwing program at the Dodgers training facility at Camelback Ranch in Arizona, and the Dodgers should know by early November whether or not he will need surgery, which would keep him out for all of 2013.
