AFL 11/12/12 recap: Mesa officially eliminated from Fall League postseason

Onelki Garcia allows the first run of his professional career and is also saddled with his first lost

To nobody's surprise the Solar Sox were officially eliminated from postseason play on Monday after they lost to the Rafters 8 to 4. It's not like they had a chance go anywhere with a 10 - 16 record, but since they sat just 4 games behind the division leader I guess it was technically possible until Monday's loss.

Dodger prospect Onelki Garcia made his second start of the season and for the first time in his professional career he allowed a run as the Salt River used walk and two singles to strike in the first inning. Garcia gave up another single to lead off the 2nd, but sat down the next three batters in order, recording one strikeout in the process.

Andres Santiago piggybacked off Onelki for the second time in a row, and while he didn't allow 7 runs to score this time, he was still pretty ineffective as he gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 2 walks over 3 frames. According to the box score he was also ejected from this game, although I'm not sure of the reasoning.

Since this will almost certainly be Santiago's last AFL appearance it should be noted that of his 7 appearances, only one could be considered good (his 5 innings one-hitter) as he finishes with a 6.86 ERA and a .304 batting average against.

Things were pretty quiet for Mesa at the dish outside a 3 for 5 effort from Jiovanni Mier (Astros) and a solo homer from George Springer (Astros). The two Dodgers in the lineup were Joc Pederson and Rafael Ynoa, but neither did much of anything. Shortstop Ynoa did have a single and took a walk, while center fielder Pederson went 0 for 3 with a free pass.

Monday's Solar Sox Box Score

Coming up: The Solar Sox only have three games left, and Tuesday's contest will feature Luke Putkonen (Tigers) against Ben Henry (Rangers) of the Saguaros.
