Dodgers announce 2013 minor league coaching staffs

Former Rookie of the Year Pat Listach, who has 13 years of coaching experience, joins the Dodgers as minor league infield coordinator. Jody Reed, who was the infield coordinator in 2012, will manage Double-A Chattanooga in 2013, essentially replacing former Class-A manager Juan Bustabad.

The Dodgers on Monday announced their 2013 minor league coaching staffs, which includes quite a shakeup. Not only have former minor league coaches Chuck Crim and John Valentin graduated to the big club, but there were some changes on the farm as well.

The complete Dodgers’ minor league staff is listed below (coaching changes in italics):
Field Coordinator: Bruce Hines
Senior Advisor, Player Development: Gene Clines, Charlie Hough
Senior Advisor, Latin America: Ramon Martinez
Hitting Coordinator: Eric Owens
Pitching Coordinator: Rafael Chaves
Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator: Damon Mashore
Infield Coordinator: Pat Listach
Catching Coordinator: Travis Barbary
Assistant Hitting Coordinator: Todd Takayoshi
Assistant Pitching Coordinator: Richard Knapp
Coordination of Arizona Instruction: John Shoemaker
Campo Las Palmas Coordinator: Henry Cruz
Field Coordinator, Campo Las Palmas: Antonio Bautista

Listach, the former American League Rookie of the Year, joins the Dodgers after 13 years coaching in the Cubs and Nationals systems. Listach was the Cubs' third base coach in 2012 and bench coach in 2011.

Shoemaker is the definition of the term "baseball man," as he has been coaching in the Dodgers organization since 1977. Shoemaker returns to the position he held in 2009-2010 after managing Single-A Great Lakes in the last two seasons. Takayoshi was in the Angels organization for 11 seasons, and Knapp was the pitching coach of the Tigers from 2009-2011 and minor league pitching coordinator of the Royals in 2012.

Triple-A Albuquerque:
Manager: Lorenzo Bundy
Hitting Coach: Franklin Stubbs
Pitching Coach: Glenn Dishman

Bundy returns for his third season managing the Isotopes. Stubbs moves up after two years as hitting coach in Double-A. Dishman returns for his third season with Albuquerque and ninth season coaching in the Dodgers system.

Double-A Chattanooga:
Manager: Jody Reed
Hitting Coach: Orv Franchuk
Pitching Coach: Hector Berrios

Reed was the Dodgers' infield coordinator last season. In his three seasons as a minor league manager, Reed has won two Manager of the Year awards, in 2011 with the rookie league Arizona Dodgers and in 2007 with the Gulf Coast Yankees. Berrios was the pitching coach in Class-A Great Lakes in 2012, while Franchuk is new to the Dodgers organization. Franchuk managed Edmonton in the independent North American League last year.

Single-A Rancho Cucamonga:
Manager: Carlos Subero
Hitting Coach: Johnny Washington
Pitching Coach: Matt Herges

Both manager Juan Bustabad and hitting coach Michael Boughton were let go after three years together, including two years in Rancho Cucamonga and one year in Great Lakes. Bustabad was a coach in the Dodgers system for 13 seasons, including over 11 years as manager.

Subero managed Double-A Chattanooga for the last three years. Herges, who was pitching coach for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, returns for his second season as pitching coach. Washington has served in a variety of roles, including three years as hitting coach in rookie league Ogden and last year as a coach at Camelback Ranch in Glendale.

Single-A Great Lakes:
Manager: Razor Shines
Hitting Coach: Mike Eylward
Pitching Coach: Bill Simas

Shines was hitting coach for Great Lakes last year. Eylward spent the last four years coaching in the Angels' system, including the last two years as hitting coach for Single-A Cedar Rapids. Simas spent the last two years as pitching coach of rookie league Ogden.

“I’m very excited to be asked by the Dodgers to lead the Great Lakes Loons in 2013,” Shines said in a release. “When the Dodgers told me I’d be managing this season, I was hoping it would be with the Loons. After last year, I’m familiar with the layout and staff at Dow Diamond, and I’m familiar with some of the young players in the organization after managing in the instructional league this fall. I think we’re going to have a young and talented (team), and I’m very excited.”

Rookie-advanced Ogden:
Manager: Damon Berryhill
Hitting Coach: Esteban Lopez
Pitching Coach: TBD

Doug Mientkiewicz, who made his coaching debut last season as Raptors hitting coach, accepted a job to manage Class-A Fort Myers in the Twins system, which allows him to be closer to home. Berryhill will return for a fifth season managing the Raptors, joined by a pair of green coaches. Lopez worked with minor leaguers at Camelback Ranch in 2012.

Rookie-level Arizona League Dodgers:
Manager/Coordinator of Arizona Instruction: P.J. Forbes
Hitting Coach: Leo Garcia
Pitching Coach: Kremlin Martinez

Forbes spent the last nine years managing in the Phillies and Pirates systems. Garcia and Martinez return to the same positions as 2012.

Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Dodgers:
Manager: Pedro Mega
Hitting Coach: Keyter Collado
Pitching Coach: Alejandro Peña
Catching Coach: Jose D. Hernandez
Assistant Coach: Rafael Ozuna

The entire staff returns intact for 2013.
