Kershaw, Lilly Remain On Track For Dodgers

A couple of ailing left-handers are both doing their scheduled work to get ready to make their next scheduled start for the Dodgers.

Clayton Kershaw, who has limited by the stomach flu to three innings on Thursday, is still in line to start the home opener on Tuesday, but he is still feeling the effects of the flu. "I still think he's not really eating the way he probably would like to. We'd like to see him get a few more calories in him," manager Don Mattingly said on Sunday.

Mattingly said he expects Kershaw to be able to pitch on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"He's definitely better than he was the other day. We're going to pay attention to him," Mattingly said. "He's in there doing his workouts, and he's eating. But it's more bland foods; he's not exactly firing up the Mexican grill."

Meanwhile, north on Interstate 15, Ted Lilly will make his scheduled rehab start this afternoon for the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Lilly missed two spring starts with stiffness in his neck, and needed time to build up his arm strength for the season. He threw a simulated game in Anaheim on April 2, and the plan after today, if everything goes well, is for Lilly to start on Saturday, April 14 against the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.

The Quakes are hosting the Indland Empire 66ers, the Class A affiliate for the Angels, at 2:05 p.m. PDT. The broadcast of the game can be heard online here.

Today's Pitching Matchup

Aaron Harang, who was 8-5 with a 3.05 ERA in 17 starts at Petco Park as a Padre in 2011, starts for the Dodgers as they seek their first four-game sweep in San Diego in 11 years. As noted in the Dodgers game notes, "Dodger hitting coach Dave Hansen was called on to pinch-hit one time in that four-game set, but was subsequently removed for another pinch-hitter and never logged an at-bat."

Clayton Richard starts for the Padres.

Starting Lineups

Justin Sellers makes his first start of the season, subbing for Mark Ellis at second base. It was a planned day off for Ellis, actually both Ellises, as A.J. Ellis gets a rest after catching the first three games, including 11 innings Saturday night.

Both second basemen get Sunday off, as Andy Parrino starts for San Diego in place of Orlando Hudson. John Baker starts behind the plate after Nick Hundley caught three games for the Padres.

The Padres also made a roster move on Sunday, placing Dustin Moseley, last night's starter on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Left-handed reliever Josh Spence was recalled from Triple A Tucson. San Diego has nine relievers on the roster right now, though Anthony Bass (two innings Saturday, might need to start next weekend) and Micah Owings (3 1/3 innings Friday) probably aren't available today.
