Dr. Frank Jobe and Tommy John are in the house and those famous words changed history for thousands of amateur and professional pitchers. The Padre pitcher tonight Edinson Volquez had his career changed by the procedure.

One of the more interesting questions asked of Dr. Jobe was why many pitchers feel they are better after the surgery then before. Dr. Jobe said he did not believe they were better because of the procedure but because of the rehab, and thus the pitcher was stronger after the surgery then before.

Many pitchers can thank Tommy John for saying "Let's do this" and laying the groundwork for this routine surgery.

Padre Notes:

Edinson Volquez was the opening day starter against the Dodgers and lost 5 - 3. He then followed that up with a loss on April 15th, 5 - 4. Not quite done, he lost again on May 17th 8 - 1 making him 0 - 3 on the season against the Dodgers. Last pitcher to lose four games against the Dodgers in a single season?

Dodger Notes:

Dodgers are 8 -2 against the Padres so far this season and 18 -4 since July 8th, 2011.

Dodgers are 20 - 9 when Mark Ellis, Andre Ethier, and Matt Kemp are in the same lineup

On this day in 1995, Ramon Martinez tossed his only no - hitter, some think it was the greatest game ever thrown by a right hand pitcher at Dodger Stadium

Josh Wall has been added to the 25 man roster in place of Javy Guerra who is with his father as he has open heart surgery.
