Dodgers 7/18/12 Minor League Report - Quakes Weather the Storm for Only Win of the Day

Minor League Player of the DayPedro Guerrero - Loons - 3 for 4, 1 2B, 2 RBI's. There weren't really any standout performances on Wednesday given the off days and postponed games, so Guerrero's game was the best I could find. Even still the 23 year old infielder is hitting just .232 for the Loons so he really isn't much of a prospect.

AAA – Postponed

AA – Off day

HiA – The Quakes played an early game on Wednesday and luckily their bats woke up in time to provide a 5 - 3 victory over the Storm (Padres). A trio of doubles led the offense, although Pedro Baez's two bagger was the only one that drove in a run. Joc Pederson went 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly, while Scott Wingo had the only multi-hit game with a pair of singles. On the mound it was Brandon Martinez who started and picked up the win after allowing 5 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings. Scott McGough gave up a run in relief, but Eric Eadington finished off the win with 1.1 hitless frames for his 16th save, which ranks 2nd in the California League.

LoA – A walk off homer by Wisconsin in the 10th left the Loons bitten by the Timber Rattlers (Brewers) in a 5 to 4 loss. Reliever Matt Shelton is the one who allowed the game ending blast in his 3rd inning of work, although up until that point he had been excellent. Going back to the start of the game Raydel Sanchez allowed 6 hits and 4 runs over 6 frames, then Jose Dominguez and Michael Thomas got in and out of trouble over the next few frames before Shelton took over. Pedro Guerrero was the big hitter on offense as he went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's, while Pratt Maynard had a single and a double. O'Koyea Dickson had a pair of singles to round out the multi-hit games, while Joe Winker had a RBI triple.

Rookie Ogden – Off day

Rookie Arizona – The Arizona Dodgers were shutout for the first time this season after they were blanked by the Cubs 4 to 0. The three singles by the offense matched the number of errors the Dodgers made in this game, and strangely enough 2nd baseman Zachary Babbit had two of the hits and two of the errors. On the mound Miguel Sulbaran suffered his first loss of the season even though he didn't allow an earned run. He gave up 4 hits and 3 walks over 4.2 frames, but all 3 runs he permitted were unearned. Jackson Mateo threw 2.1 innings of relief and allowed 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 3.

DSL – Wander Beras had another strong outing but that wasn't enough as the Dodgers lost to the Mariners 2 to 1. Beras allowed just 2 runs over 6 frames and struck out 10, but those two runs were just too much for his offense to overcome because his offense managed just 5 singles in this game. Melvin Santana went 1 for 3 and had the only RBI, and Josmar Cordero was 0 for 3 in his return to the lineup so you scratch my guess that he was heading for Arizona.

Coming up – Everyone will be playing a game tomorrow except for the Isotopes who will be playing two. Derrek Loop and Fernando Nieve are the schedule starters for Albuquerque's twin-bill, and Aaron Miller will throw for the Lookouts. Andres Santiago will toe the rubber for the Quakes, while Greg Wilborn is supposed to take the ball for the Loons.

Minor League Transactions – AAA: Erick Threets, who was a non roster invitee for the Dodgers back in 2009 and played with the Isotopes that year, has been signed by the Dodgers and has been assigned to Albuquerque. LoA: Jeff Hunt was placed on the DL and Delvis Morales was activated.
