Dodgers Bullpen Gaining Steam

Javy Guerra is back, rejoining what has become a strong bullpen for the Dodgers.
Javy Guerra is back, rejoining what has become a strong bullpen for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers welcomed back Javy Guerra last night, as the right-hander pitched his first game since June 2. It adds depth to a back end of the bullpen that has been performing well of late.

  • Kenley Jansen in his last seven outings has retired 22 of 23 batters, pitching seven no-hit innings with one walk and 12 strikeouts.
  • Ronald Belisario has retired the last 13 batters he has faced, including five by strikeout, and among National League pitchers with at least 20 innings his 0.95 ERA trails only Sergio Romo's 0.72 ERA.
  • Scott Elbert has allowed no runs in 20 of his last 23 appearances, and has allowed just two of 20 inherited runners to score during that span.
  • Since losing two games in four days on the Dodgers' disastrous 1-8 road trip, Josh Lindblom has pitched five straight scoreless outings.

The bullpen as a whole has a 2.10 ERA in 81 1/3 innings over their last 32 games with 74 strikeouts and 34 walks during that span.

Tonight's Pitching Matchup

Chad Billingsley has never lost five starts in a row, but is staring that in the face after allowing 17 runs in 23 innings in his last four starts. Trevor Cahill has lost his last two starts, allowing 10 runs in 11 innings for the Diamondbacks.

Starting Lineups

Juan Uribe makes his first start since Monday, when he sprained his right ankle. Uribe made one pinch-hit appearance in the last four games, grounding into a double play on Thursday in Arizona. Uribe is in an 0-for-24 slump.
